This fall, themes are getting even more detailed with the New Xbox Experience. Themes will take over more than just the background of your Dashboard – they will be present on every channel in cool, dynamic ways. Yes, I said, "DYNAMIC." […]

Every graphic on each channel will tie into your theme and change if you choose a different one. You can really see this on the Friends Channel – each of your friends' Avatars will stand next to a different graphic or environment. These graphics will match the theme you choose and will change dynamically as you navigate from channel to channel. But that’s not all; the themes will be subtly animated. This is some pretty cool stuff when you see it.
This is what your Dashboard and Friends Channel would look like with the Signature Theme – picture the bubbles in the background moving, shrinking, growing – you get the idea.

Also on the Friends Channel, you’ll be able to see your friends’ Avatars rally when you host a LIVE party. You can see who is online and offline by what their Avatars are doing, too. Online? Your friends will emote and be able to wave you over to jump into their party. Offline? Well, they’re snoozing, of course.

Finally (and many of you have asked us about this) don’t worry – you can still use the themes you previously purchased with the New Xbox Experience. They’ll look even better over the new UI, especially in high-definition.

Ich finde das neue Dashboard auch ansprechender. Hab erst seit kurzem ne 360 und vorher noch nie den Marktplatz/das Dashboard gesehen. Als ich da zum ersten mal ein wenig rumgeklickt hab fand ich es schon irgendwie altbacken. Ich hoffe einfach das sich die Bedienbarkeit verbessert. Etwas wurde ja schon gesagt:

Na endlich! Was auch nervt, ist dass die Beschreibungen der Inhalte immer von selbst scrollen. Hier wäre eine Verkleinerung der Schrift oder ein selbst scrollbarer Text(rechter Stick) angebracht. Die Avatare und das ganze Party/Primetime Zeugs interessieren mich eigentlich nicht, werd aber mal reinschauen. Das Spiele-auf-die-HDD-ziehen ist natürlich absolut geil. Hab dafür extra von der 20GB auf die 120GB HDD aufgerüstet.

After learning that the New Xbox Experience and Avatar customization would require, at minimum, a 256MB memory card, it spawned more questions than answers. Would the NXE install take up all 256MB? If so, what about Xbox 360 Arcade owners and their tiny 256MB memory card? Wait, what about Core customers who don't have storage or own a 64MB memory card? What are they to do and is the NXE update a mandatory download? CONFUSION! So, we reached out to. Major Nelson and, thankfully, he cleared up said confusion ...

"The new Xbox experience will require 128MB of free space. A hard drive is recommended for the optimal experience, to take advantage of some new features, and to be able to enjoy the great movies, TV shows and games available on Xbox LIVE. While we expect the majority of consumers to download the New Xbox Experience without a problem, a small percentage of Xbox 360 owners do not have enough memory to accommodate the update. To help ensure all Xbox LIVE members are able to download the New Xbox Experience and enjoy its new features, Microsoft will be offering storage solutions to the Xbox LIVE community. We are not sharing details of this offering yet. Be sure to check xbox.com for more details in the coming weeks."

There you have it. The NXE is a required dash update, will need roughly 128MBs of storage, a HDD is recommended AND (shocker here) for those who own little or no 360 storage, Microsoft will be offering some sort of "storage solution". We wait for more info ...

Damit meinen die wohl die 60GB HDD, die pünktlich zum Herbstupdate rauskommt, oder? Aber mal ehrlich: ne 360 kaufen, aber keine Memory Card? Das ist schon irgendwie doof. Ich kenne auch einen, der hat sich kurz nach Release ne PS2 + 2 Spiele gekauft, aber keine MC. Sowas gehört nunmal zu ner Konsole dazu. Für die Arcade Besitzer ist das natürlich doof. Aber so ist das nunmal bei MS. Hab mir auch die Premium mit 20GB und HDMI gekauft und kurze Zeit später kam die 60GB Premium zum gleichen Preis.

Aber mal ehrlich: ne 360 kaufen, aber keine Memory Card? Das ist schon irgendwie doof.

Du hast das Problem nicht ganz verstanden. Anfangs, also etwa die ersten 1,5 Jahre wurde der Vorgänger der Xbox Arcade mit Namen „Core“ komplett ohne Speichermedium verkauft und im Handel gab es lange Zeit NUR 64 MB(!) Speicherkarten. All die Leute, die da nicht in eine größere Speichereinheit investiert haben, können das Update nicht installieren. Denen wird MS daher wohl – wenn sie sich bei der Hotline melden und die Konsolen ID angeben - eine kostenlose 256 MB Speicherkarte zukommen lassen. Wäre die preiswerteste Lösung.

Dazu kommt dann noch, dass mit dem neuen Update von den 256 Speicherkarten, die mit jeder Arcade ausgeliefert werden, 50% schon belegt sind. D.h. der Platz reicht oftmals schon gar nicht mehr für den Download eines Arcadespiels.



Xbox Live Downloads über den PC steuern

Does this sound familiar? You are sitting at your computer, most likely at work or school and you check out Xbox.com (I won't tell, or will I? MUAHAHA), to see what new content is up on Marketplace. Maybe you see a new Theme you want to download, or notice that the map pack you’ve been waiting for has finally arrived.
So, you sit there and let the profanity fly (hopefully in your head) because there's nothing you can do, but wait until you get home. Those sexy Gamerpics, movies and additional levels just sit there and mock you saying, ‘I know you want me, but you’ll have to wait to queue me up for the download.’
Guess what? Not anymore.
Once the New Xbox Experience launches you will be able to browse Xbox LIVE Marketplace on your PC (even using text search) – and if you see something you like, you can add it to your queue and even purchase it right there and then. As soon as you get back home to your Xbox 360 and turn it on, the content will begin to download. Think about it – by the time you finish getting out of your shirt and tie, or skirt, or pajamas, or pink fuzzy bunny outfit, you will have a new Xbox LIVE Arcade game to play or a new TV show to watch.

Das zieht den Namen "Arcade" dann natürlich etwas ins Lächerliche. Aber dass auf ne 256er MU nicht viel draufpasst sollte eigentlich jedem von Anfang an klar sein(mag arrogant klingen, ist aber nunmal so). Dass das mit dem Speicherbedarf des NXE jetzt so hintenrum rauskommt ist natürlich unschön. Wie läuft das denn, wenn man die 360 gar nicht mit dem Netz verbindet? Setzen die neuesten Games das NXE vorraus?

Das kann ich mir irgendwie nicht vorstellen, normale Retail-Games setzen sicherlich nicht das neue Update vorraus, eventuell einige zukünftige Features, wenn z.B. die Avatare mit ins Spiel eingebaut werden...

Ich will es mal so sagen: MS kann es sich nicht erlauben Konsolen zu verkaufen und dann durch ein Zwangsupdate Leute aussperren, die nur eine der ersten Speicherlösungen haben. Da ist ein geschenkter 256 MB Flashspeicher für die Leute, die sich melden, sicherlich die kostengünstigste Lösung.

Der RoD ist / war schon lächerlich genug und hat dem Image mehr als ausreichend geschadet, dass MS um Platz 2 inzwischen bangen muss. Da kann man sich nicht jetzt auch noch hinstellen und den Leuten, die vor knapp 3 bis 1,5 Jahren nur ne Core mit Speicherkarte gekauft haben und sagen „Wenn ihr das Gerät weiter nutzen wollt, dann legt doch 50 bis 80€ auf den Tisch“.

Wie läuft das denn, wenn man die 360 gar nicht mit dem Netz verbindet? Setzen die neuesten Games das NXE vorraus?

Einige Monate nach Release befindet sich das Update auch auf den Spiele DVDs und ist IMO ab dann auch Pflicht. Immerhin werden die Spiele ja auch für die neuen Funktionen entwickelt und nebenbei etwa die Systemsicherheitt ständig verbessert.

NXE und Speicher

Kurze Klarstellung meinerseits was NXE (New Xbox Experience, das neue System-Update für Xbox 360), Speicher und Arcade-Konsolen angeht.
NXE läuft natürlich auch ohne Festplatte. Wer mit NXE LIVE gehen will, benötigt aber 128 MByte Speicher entweder auf Festplatte oder auf einer Memory Unit. Bei Xbox 360 Arcade Units ist eine 256 MByte Memory Unit dabei, da ist also genug Platz. Wer nur kleinere Memory Units hat (nur bei den älteren “Core”-Konsolen und 64 MByte-MUs), für den wird es auch Lösungen geben. Microsoft wird hier noch eine detaillierte Ankündigung machen.
Und wer Spiele auf Festplatte kopieren will, nun ja, der braucht eine Festplatte. Ist aber wohl irgendwie logisch. Ebenso wer Filme oder große Demos laden will - das war aber schon die letzten Jahre so und ändert sich durch NXE auch nicht.
Wenn man mit seiner Konsole gar nicht LIVE ist, braucht man den zusätzlichen Speicher auch nicht. Und kriegt am 19. November auch gar nicht den Update, denn der ist ja nur via Xbox LIVE verfügbar.

Microsoft just launched a new Xbox Storage Upgrade website where Arcade and Core owners can request their storage solution. All you have to do is enter your console's serial number and ID, then the system will check to make sure your console isn't an Elite or Pro. Some are reporting that the system knows if you have a HDD connected and will deny your storage upgrade, so be careful. Once your console is verified to be lacking 128MBs of storage, you'll be given a special offer based on which console you own. The storage solution offers are:
• Xbox 360 Acade owners: Refurbished 20GB HDD + 3 months of Xbox Live for $30.
• Xbox 360 Core owners: 512MB memory card for free OR refurbished 20GB HDD for $20

wie downloaden?

Ich habe eine Frage: Es wurde ja bekannt gegeben ,dass das Xbox-Update über Xbox-Live downloadbar ist. Kann man es auch irgend wie anders kriegen, z.B. indem man es auf den pc downloaded und dann auf cd brennt? Ich habe nähmlich momentan kein Internet und werde in nächster erstmal keins haben. Hab schon überall nachgeguckt aber nichts gefunden.
