Since Super Bonk plays very similarly to its TurboGrafx-16 counterparts,
it's definitely going to appeal more to fans of the original releases
than those looking for a Super Mario-calibre platformer. The slightly
sluggish controls and somewhat short length might turn some players off,
but gamers who can appreciate a unique spin on the classic Bonk
experience are likely to find enough to enjoy to warrant their Wii
Points. In many ways the game is actually even more playable than the
originals, something to keep in mind if you're a fan of them.

This game might not have introduced many unique elements to the world of arcade gaming, but it at least used established conventions in an interesting and enjoyable way. SonSon's simplicity manages to be its greatest strength, and also one of its major drawbacks. It might not be a download that you turn to often, but it can provide a few minutes of mindless fun whenever you do decide to play it.

It's wonderful to see the Mario Party series make an encore appearance, as it's been several years since Mario Party 8 came along and I know thousands of fans' holiday season parties have felt the absence of this truly fun and funny party-gaming staple. If you became a Nintendo gamer in the last decade, missed Mario Party 2 back in 2000 or if you just can't play it on your N64 any more because someone broke your controllers with an ill-advised extra round of MP1, then definitely jump on board for this VC re-release. It's well worth its asking price in Wii Points and may make you the life of the party.

small surprises while keeping things centered on the same core gameplay
that's made its name so successful for nearly a decade now. If you (or

Points for those who know exactly what they'll be getting.

curiosity. The configurable settings offer a tiny bit of extra value,
but there's really no reason to pick this up unless you're a big fan of
the series.

Magical Drop III doesn't try to re-invent the wheel when it comes to its overall gameplay design, but what it does do is carry over many of the best elements from its predecessor and then toss in a wealth of new gameplay twists and game modes for players to enjoy. And not only is the game an extremely competitive and intense multiplayer puzzler, but it's single-player modes are every bit as fun and challenging as well. In the end, Magical Drop III represents one of the best puzzle releases available on the Virtual Console and one well worth checking out for fans of the genre.

Black Tiger's entertainment value is pretty much directly tied to your
gaming skill. If you can do well enough in the first few levels to kit
yourself out with good stuff, then it should be possible to beat the
rest of the game without too much resistance, provided you've mastered
your jumping skills. Those first few levels thankfully aren't as hard
as, say, those in Ghosts 'n Goblins, but if you just cannot manage to do
well in the beginning, then the rest of the game will just be one long,
boring slog of repeatedly inserting extra coins and continuing.

Is this really a Bomberman game? Hudson attempts to do Crash Bandicoot starring Bomberman, but falls short in graphics, sound, and gameplay. The different vehicles Bomberman can get/turn into are cool, but the game just feels like "generic platformer X" most of the time. There are the occasional flashes of originality, but barely enough for us to recommend the game. Bomberman Hero is ideal for younger players, who will feel more at home in the restricted on-rails levels. Everyone else: Rent it. By the way: Bomberman without multiplayer? That's like Mario without a hat, Trent Ward with short hair, or Dan Egger without his neuroses...

Final Fantasy III did wonders for the RPG genre outside of Japan during the 16-bit era, and while the Chrono Trigger vs. Final Fantasy III debate still wages on, you can't help but appreciate how epic and enthralling a quest Squaresoft was able to cook up for this sixth release in the series. There might not be quite as much variety in the combat system as that of Chrono Trigger, but it's still a fairly big step up from that of Final Fantasy II, and ultimately an RPG adventure that's everything a good sequel should be and more. If you've somehow never played Final Fantasy III in any of its various forms over the years, you truly owe it to yourself to experience one of the best releases the series has to offer. And if you have played the game before, perhaps it's time to relive the magic all over again on the Virtual Console.
