The defection of EA's new NBA Jam from the Wii-exclusive camp has stung a lot of the Nintendo faithful, and understandably so – but, though they're rare, there are still Wii exclusive being delivered through services like WiiWare that help ease the pain of injured fan pride. HoopWorld is one of the best and most timely examples of that reality I've encountered in a while – it's a truly impressive alternative to the Jam experience that even excels beyond my nostalgia memories of that arcade classic in some respects. I think it's well worth a look for its asking price of 10 bucks, and if its developers ever decided to revisit the concept with a few key improvements -- like, say, adding Classic Controller support and Wi-Fi Connection play to something like "HoopWorld: Tournament Edition" – then it could even edge up into must-have territory.

If Aksys Games had taken the initiative to swap in a more culturally
appropriate headlining act, or if more than just a trio of games had
made the cut for this five dollar download, then it might have been
worth a look. As it is, the Family franchise is going out on a bit of a
down note -- just go grab a standard poker deck for 99 cents instead.
Video

VideoThen again, I'm talking to a crowd that's just coming fresh off of the
new Sin & Punishment -- difficulty is nothing for you guys. If
that's you, and you loved the third-person shooting of Star Successor,
this retro take on the same concept could help you continue to fan the
flames of your newfound admiration for controlling both cursors and
characters at the same time. And maybe, if we're lucky, these two
close-together releases will help kickstart some small resurgence for
the poor, long lost and mostly forgotten genre.
