Rondo of Blood hasn't acquired the reputation of being one of the finest Castlevania games in existence over the years for nothing. Not only does it feature some absolutely fantastic level design, many with multiple pathways, but the PC Engine CD-quality soundtrack is among the best music the series has ever offered. Couple all of this with the same high level of challenge fans of the series have come to expect over the years and you have a Castlevania experience that should please even the most finicky fans of the series. And if by some chance you've yet to experience this amazing platformer, this Virtual Console release is the perfect opportunity to find out what all the fuss is about.

Milon's Secret Castle is another of Hudson's early efforts on the NES. And, like Mighty Bomb Jack before it, it falls well short of being fun. Like any old-school game from the '80s, Milon has its own small, cult following – but new players not already familiar with the title will simply feel frustrated, lost, and cheated out of their 500 Wii Points. Invest in a different NES classic instead.

muscle-march-20091203024358069_640w.jpg

Muscle March is definitely good for a laugh and the giggles you get might be worth the $5 (5€) price tag. But the person playing will not have as much fun as the people watching. The game is kiddie pool shallow and the motion controls can be unresponsive. Still, it's definitely got a lot of quirky charm and there certainly isn't anything else like it on any system. It may not be a complete success, but I am glad this game exists.
At its core, Art of Balance is an extremely simple gameplay idea that's
executed perfectly. Not only are the physics absolutely spot-on, but
the intuitive control scheme made possible by the Wii Remote makes
playing the game easy and fun. It might lack a bit of the visual and
musical polish that World of Goo featured, but there's a similarly
addictive gameplay experience that's nearly impossible to put down once
you begin playing it. Art of Balance is easily one of the most engaging
titles to hit WiiWare in a very long time and with 100 levels to
tackle, it's well worth the 800 Wii Points it will cost you.

[img src="http://n64media.ign.com/media/previews/newimages/ogrebattle/ogrebattlep_17_640w.jpg
It's really a shame that this title wasn't able to make it out of
production sooner in the life cycle of the N64. Perhaps then other
developers would have perked-up and realized that it only takes a
little effort and talent, and they too could have to put together a
quality RPG on this cart-based Nintendo system. But regardless, Ogre Battle 64
is finally available to the public, and we simply couldn't be happier.
I can tell you right now what my plans are for the weekend -- turnout
all the lights, grab a soda, and hit the couch for some more RPG
goodness.
If you simply can't stand menus, then be advised: this game may
not be for you. You should at least give it a rent if you're remotely
interested in RPGs. I'll bet that before long, you'll be running out to
the store trying to scoop up the last remaining copy. Do yourself a
favor now -- go get it. This game is very deep and wonderfully complex, and RPG fans simply shouldn't miss it.

So, that's all been a bunch of words to say what you should have
expected from the start -- that Fatal Fury Special, as a special
edition of Fatal Fury 2, pretty much makes Fatal Fury 2 obsolete in the
Wii Shop now. Perhaps that's the reason why the Neo Geo system took a
break from Virtual Console releases all last year -- it gave the games
that had already been released a bit of breathing room to sell, without
being trumped by their later, superior sequels. Well, time's up, old
games. The Neo's back, and it's time to buy again.
For fans of classic 2D gaming, Chronos Twins is a must-play offering
whether you find a way to dig up the original DS version or download it
on WiiWare. For US gamers, this is the first time the game has seen a
release stateside, and for that reason alone I highly recommend the
purchase. It's got its random issues – mainly in the overall
presentation and interface – but thankfully the outstanding gameplay
has in no way been sacrificed during its transition from Game Boy
Advance, onto DS, and then back onto a single-screen format. I truly
believe that EnjoyUp was ahead of its time when Chronos Twin was
originally crafted for GBA, and having a chance to own it after all
these years just shouldn't be passed up, even if the game is showing
its age a bit. The puzzles will twist your brain, the bosses are fun,
and the game's "two screen, two dimension" hook is not only well
thought up, but also well executed from top to bottom.
Video

And don't think Family Mini Golf is where it ends -- oh no, my
friends. ARC System Works has at least three more "Family" series games
where this one and its pitiful predecessors came from. I'd offer
development advice, or recommend that Aksys stop the DLC nonsense and
offer more complete default offerings, but I know such pleas will fall
on deaf ears. And that's especially unfortunate, because the
developer/publisher partnership between ARC System Works and Aksys has
produced some really solid games, like the recent Jake Hunter Detective Story: Memories of the Past on DS, and Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus here on Wii. So it's really only this WiiWare Family series that's cursed, not the companies' other efforts.
Oh well. I suppose there's nothing left to do but mentally prepare
myself for the inevitable future -- I'll be back again, reiterating
these complaints, when we get Family Poker Night, and Family Slot Car
Racing, and Family Wii Sports Tennis Knock-Off 2.

If you're making a purchasing decision about a Mario Kart game and you have a Wii, you now have four different options -- Mario Kart Wii, the most recent release. Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, infamously 7.9'd and playable through the system's backwards-compatibility with GameCube discs. Mario Kart 64,
also available through Virtual Console download, and, now the original
Super Mario Kart. Each one of the four has its own appeal, and you'll
find diehard supporters that claim each one of them is the best in the
series. (Well, maybe not so many for Double Dash.)
Where each of the N64, Cube and Wii installments of the series have
focused on multiplayer, more characters and more crazy items, though,
this SNES original keeps things simpler -- emphasizing, instead, the
actual racing instead of the combat within each race. It's a different
take on the same idea, which is interesting since it's the original
take on that idea. So stick with the other Kart games if you want the
multiplayer chaos, but come on back to this very first racing adventure
with Mario and his crew. It's absolutely worth 800 of your Wii Points
to re-experience, or to play for the very first time.
And though it took a while for Super Mario Kart to finally arrive on
VC, now that it's here we should be truly thankful. Year 4's getting
started right for the Virtual Console.

With children's TV shows attempting to reach out and get your kids
moving nowadays, the Learning with the PooYoos series is a natural
extension of this trend. Featuring a bright, colorful world, adorable
characters, and a warm, kind voice that prompts your child to get up
and move, it's a great way to be able to play a Wii game with your
young one. It would've been nice to see more variety in the things it
attempts to teach your child, but it's no different than a DVD they
choose to watch over and over again. There's a good chance your 3-6
year old will get some decent mileage out of this title, and at 500
points, it costs less than most of the other toys and games they'll

Blaster Master still stands as one of the true gems to come out of
the 8-bit era of gaming. It's fantastic gameplay and thoroughly
engaging quest make for one amazing video game experience. Sure, the
game is a bit on the difficult side, but it's so good you'll want to
keep coming back to it in order to beat it. It's easy to see why so
many classic game fans still hold this title in such high regard and
it's great to see Sunsoft bring it back for an entirely new generation
to enjoy. If you've yet to experience Blaster Master then you owe it to
yourself to give the game a try and at a mere 500 Wii Points, it's an

Ninja Kiwi have made Bloons and its numerous sequels the foundation of
their company, but it's simply not a game you can translate for a
console as sloppily as developer Bloober Team and publisher Hands-On
Games have done. Delivering a linear, overly simplistic puzzle game with
poor presentation and no multiplayer doesn't cut it on the Wii —
especially given the ridiculous difficulty curve in the level design. If
you've got a balloon popping fetish you'll probably love it, but fans
of quality puzzle games have a large selection of far better games at

Mega Man 4 is easily the most disputed classic Mega Man title. Some
claim it to be the absolute worst in the series due to the (mostly)
boring bosses, disappointing music, the new Mega Buster and the slightly
less simple stages. However, others think it's still a great title,
with Keiji Inafune, Mega Man's creator, even considering it one of the
best! Let's just keep it at this: if you're simply up for more of the
usual Mega Man action, Mega Man 4 offers it, but if you want something
to rival the greatness of 2 and 3, you might walk away disappointed.

Discerning Virtual Console review readers will notice my name's not the
one on the byline up there this time around -- a rarity indeed. The
reason is a simple one, though -- our own IGN Retro editor, Levi
Buchanan, already took care of taking a look back at this SNES
platformer a year and a half ago (right when the country was in the
middle of preparing itself for the disappointment of Kingdom of the
Crystal Skull). And as I agree with his assessment, there's no real
need to rewrite what he's already written -- Indiana Jones' Greatest
Adventures is an impressive game, and one you can feel confident
spending 800 of your Wii Points to own now that it's arrived in emulated
form in the Wii Shop.
This marks the fifth recent LucasArts classic to come to Virtual
Console, too -- all three Super Star Wars games and the cult hit,
Zombies Ate My Neighbors, have also appeared for download in recent
months. Could even more LucasArts love be on the way after this? I can
only hope -- and encourage you to spend some cash on these classics, to
let old George know we'd love to see more retro hits where these came
from.

saying that if the developers had actually created five "arcade gems"

selling each on its own at a budget price. If your Wii gaming is

With all that warning in place, though, I'd still fully recommend
Final Fantasy in Virtual Console form -- either as a reminder of when
you first played it on cartridge twenty years ago, or as your first step
into the foundations of Square's most important series. It's absolutely
worth the asking price of just five dollars to download, even without
the modern amenities of more recent remakes.
Probably because it just gets the sense of adventure and famous flare of
Final Fantasy right, even amid any frustrations -- the classic battle
music that's served as inspiration for several subsequent sequels'
battle themes, the victory fanfare with its flourish and accompanying
jovial arm-raising from your heroes. There's no denying the simple
pleasures of these most basic components, made all the more
nostalgically potent after twenty years' worth of follow-ups and sequels
paying constant homage to them.
And the quest is still one of the finest ever released for the NES in
America. Though Japanese players ended up getting two 8-bit sequels to
this game before their Famicom stepped aside for its Super upgrade, this
is the only NES era Final Fantasy game that ever made it to us in the
U.S. Its appeal, then, was never diminished in its own generation here
-- it was never surpassed on its home hardware. And that intact appeal
and lasting value for American gamers is more than enough reason to
recommend owning it again now, for 500 Wii Points. And why this
re-release may well sell tons again, even after the availability of this
first Fantasy's many different remakes over the years.
(It's probably not a bad idea to drop five bucks on this one, too, to
help convince Square Enix to keep it up and re-release later sequels
like Final
Fantasy IV
and Final Fantasy VI
for us later on as well. Just saying.)

There's certainly no denying the vast number of similarities between
Ghoul Patrol and Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Gamers who just couldn't get
enough of the original might want to at least give the game a closer
look now that it's available at a much more cost-efficient 800 points.
That being said, the glaring omission of the original's off-beat humor

ignore, especially given the game's rather lofty difficulty level. Ghoul
Patrol is a decent attempt at capturing the magic of Zombies but never
seems to come off as anything more than a clumsy knock-off.

It's quite easy to nitpick the inadequacies of these Phoenix Wright: Ace
Attorney releases on WiiWare given their shoddy transition to the big
screen, but it's also worth noting that you are still getting basically
the same game, you're just not getting it with the smooth coat of paint
many might prefer. If you're one of the people who don't own a DS system
(all four of you), this might be worth a play for you, but unless
you're just a die-hard Phoenix Wright fan that has to have everything
related to the series, you might want to pass on this half-hearted
WiiWare attempt.

If you're a fan of the Kirby series, Kirby Super Star is the game to
own. Not only are there quite a few homages to classic releases in the
series strung throughout the game, but there are also enough new
gameplay ideas tossed into the mix to please even long-time fans of the
series who've given the previous games countless play-throughs. Sure the
difficulty is a bit on the easy side, but as anyone familiar with the
series should know by now, difficulty is certainly not what the Kirby
games are about anyway. It's easy to see why Kirby Super Star is widely
regarded as the best release in the series, and it won't take you long
to see just why that is once you dive into these entertaining
adventures.

The final question, then, is which version to get. This Virtual Console re-release wins the argument on price, as at just eight bucks to download it's an incredible value -- tracking down the GBA or DS editions would certainly cost you much more than that. But that may be the only key advantage this VC version holds, in the end. The remakes have been much more in-line with the story and gameplay experience that Square's artisans originally intended, and are certainly a better way to go for players, like me, who've just somehow managed to miss this adventure altogether over the past 20 years.

So I'd recommend investing the extra time and cash to find one of those two portable packages, unless, unlike me, you're a gamer who first played this one in this original SNES form back in the '90s. Then the nostalgia you'll get from its many quirks, its goofy translation and its far-too-easy difficulty level will only serve to reinforce your love for Cecil's quest -- a love that I can understand and appreciate, even though this way my first time meeting the spoony bard.

And that's what you're left feeling at the end of a play session here --
maybe initially interested, maybe a bit hopeful at the beginning, but
ultimately disappointed. Stickmen Studios has made great strides in
presentation and theme compared to its first WiiWare product, but the
crippled control and occasional visual glitch keeps this second effort
from succeeding too. Maybe they'll come back around and get it right
next time, some time before Nintendo's totally moved on to its next

That's pretty much it -- that's the extent of interaction with this design, and beyond that it really is nothing more than the random, repetitive rolling of dice and watching your character move haphazardly around a map in the blind hope that you'll somehow outscore your opponents by the end of it all. Mario Party wouldn't work without its mini-games. And since Family Pirate Party is, essentially, Mario Party without its mini-games, it doesn't work.

The sound effects and music are really bland, the visuals are nothing special (though they get the job done for what’s already a very basic offering), but the game works for what it is. We wouldn’t go as far as to say we had fun with the game, or that it really encouraged us to go back and create more castles, get higher scores in the “tower defense” inspired Crab Battle mode. A simple two player mode is available within free play, allowing a buddy to grab another set of Wii-motes and nunchuks and get in on the castle making, but for whatever reason the tower defense mode itself is single player only, which is the only area I’d really want a buddy helping me out in. Aero the Acrobat 2 basically does everything a good sequel should. It
takes the best ideas from the first game, fixes many of the flaws, and
adds in just enough new material to set it apart from the original game.
Better graphics, more variety in the musical score, and a much better
gameplay system turn what was originally a fairly bland platformer into a
unique and challenging platforming experience that should thoroughly
satisfy any fans of the genre with room to spare. If you can appreciate a
game that's just downright fun, you should definitely check out Aero
the Acrobat 2. It's still one of the better platformers to come out of
the 16-bit era and a game that's every bit as much fun to play now on
the Virtual Console service as it was fifteen years ago on the Super
Nintendo console.
