Doublepost, bitches!

Abwärtskompatibilität FAQ:

No extra cost - Backward compatibility on Xbox One will be a standard feature when it launches this fall.
Now available to preview program users - Backward compatibility is now live for Xbox One preview program users. However, only 21 titles are currently available. They are as follows: A Kingdom for Keflings, A World of Keflings, Alien Hominid HD, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts n Bolts, Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, BattleBlock Theater, Defense Grid, Geometry Wars Evolved, Hexic HD, Jetpac Refuelled, Kameo, Mass Effect, Perfect Dark, Perfect Dark Zero, Small Arms, Super Meat Boy, Toy Soldiers, Toy Soldiers: Cold War, Viva Piñata, Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise.
It is unclear if more titles will be added to the preview program in the months leading up to its full release, but I think that would be a safe assumption, especially considering the full launch in the fall is planned for 100+ titles.
"Hundreds more every month" - After the program goes live in the fall, Microsoft has stated it will be bringing hundreds of new Xbox 360 titles on board every month.
Games are installed - This is not a streaming service. Everything seems to work exactly as it does for Xbox One games. If you own a retail 360 game on the approved list, you simply need to insert the disc, install the game, and away you go. The disc will need to remain in the drive for its ownership check. For digital titles, they will show as "Ready to Install" in the "My Games and Apps" tile, and likewise you'll only need to install and play.

For digital Xbox 360 titles, these will not be purchasable directly on the Xbox One (yet - it seems silly that they would not work this in eventually). You can purchase them on your Xbox 360 or xbox.com to have them available on your Xbox One.

The Xbox 360 guide is back- Pressing start+select at the same time while inside an Xbox 360 game will open the old-school Xbox 360 guide to access game and party invites, messages, etc.

Advanced feature are available - Xbox One exclusive features such as Game DVR, screenshots, and Windows 10 streaming will all be available to Xbox 360 games being played on Xbox One.

Save files and achievements are cross-gen - Your progress in a game will transfer to the Xbox One via the cloud, if the title supports cloud saves. Simply upload it to the cloud on your Xbox 360 and it will be available on Xbox One. All your achievement progress in the game will carry over as well. You can switch between the two consoles at any time for supported games and pick up where you left off.

Multiplayer is cross-gen - You will be able to play an Xbox 360 game on your Xbox One against those who are playing the game on their Xbox 360. However, you will still not be able to play an Xbox One game against those with the Xbox 360 version.

Developers must opt-in - This is perhaps the most important caveat that was not highlighted by Microsoft, and I think they glossed it over for good reason. For games to be backward compatible, the original developer must allow it to be used in this manner, and it appears that the developer must initiate things with Microsoft (this part is a bit muddy). Many of the first reactions I read were "no more remasters!" but if a developer was working on a remaster, or planning to, they can simply choose to opt out of backward compatibility program and release their remaster, or just leave their game off the program and not have it available on Xbox One in any format.

Free game offers - While this is not a "feature" of the program, per se, it is a very important point to bring up. It has already been announced that gamers who buy Fallout 4 on Xbox One will receive Fallout 3 for free, and Rainbow Six: Siege purchasers will receive both Rainbow Six: Vegas games. I can't think of any better pre-order incentive than an entire free game.

---
So there you have it. The program is not perfect, but considering it was thought that this was not even possible from a hardware standpoint, it's basically a miracle made real. One of the most requested features from any console is now a reality, and how that reality is shaped will determine how much of a success it is, and how much it helps Microsoft in the sales department.
